$21,745 donated to Teach the Children

Bealls stores in the Valley of Texas helped raise $21,745 through their 30 Days of Giving Community Counts program that was held in March. Teach the Children began in San Antonio, Tx in 1976. It's goal is to provide new clothing and school supplies to as many needy children each year as is financially possible. Teach the Children supports school districts across the Rio Grande Valley. School districts furnish Teach the Children with the numbers of children entering the first grade in their districts known to be in need of assistance. Usually the number is between 3,000 and 6,000. But in recent years that number has increased to over 10,000. In thirty years of fund raising Teach the Children of the Rio Grande Valley has raised over $4,280,000 and has assisted over 184,000 children.

St Jude Teen Formal

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's Child Life department hosted the Annual St. Jude Teen and Young Adult Formal on April 3, 2014. Stage Stores and Jim's Formal Wear partnered together to provide all the tuxedos for the prom attendees. The gala event allows teens who may miss their own high school formals due to treatment to experience and share in the magic of prom night. Patients, ages 13-24, are invited to the special event held in the Danny Thomas/ALSAC Pavilion. Prior to the prom, the girls were treated to a "pamper party" to have their hair, makeup and nails done, and the boys were fitted for tuxedos. Then, the young people traveled in style to the Hospitals pavilion, arriving in limousines to walk the red carpet to the cheers of family, friends and hospital staff before enjoying a night of live music, dancing, and photo opportunities. Special thanks to our Goody's store in Covington, TN, Store Manager Lisa Owens-Aguilar and her team for all their assistance with fitting, ordering and delivering the tuxedos.
